Benchmark Hunting

Post by glorkar » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:14 pm

Does anybody else hunt benchmarks? I find it very enjoyable and rewarding. You don't get a smiley or even a number on most sites. I started benchmarking in September of last year and have found 84 of varying styles to date. If anybody is interested in the hobby, check out:

Scaredy Cat Films Benchmark Viewer
This site has an interactive map of benchmarks in the US.

Holoscenes
This site has some great statistics on benchmarking.

I like to keep track of the benchmarks I've found using Google Maps.
I'm nowhere near an expert, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me :)

Just recovered my oldest disk to date. It was monumented in 1908. I had to walk along an old railroad bed to find it. It was quite a trip.

I like to look for them wile caching. I have found a few that were pretty old. Id have to look but I think they were monuments or statues. Found a few on summits in the Adirondacks too thats pretty cool when you do that.

Good to see NatvTxn has listed some BMs as virtual caches. I'm gonna dig though my list to find some of the newer or more obscure ones that aren't listed on GC. The ones that other people might not even know exist.
