Taking the Kids/Grandkids Geocaching

This Labor Day weekend we are camped at Tannehill State Park near McCalla, Alabama. We have our 2 grand daughters camping with us, ages 5 and 8. There are numerous geocaches in the area so we took them with us to go "treasure hunting". They were so excited to find the first cache (with our help) which was a 35mm film canister. We explained to them that when one is this small, we only get to sign the log book. They were eager to search for the next one!

The next one involved a short walk into the woods and much to their enjoyment it was a medium container with lots of goodies in it. We signed the log and they picked out a toy dinosaur from the box and replaced it with a toy frog. We made sure they understood that if they take something they must replace it with something of equal or greater value. We did a little more caching before they decided they wanted to ride their bicycles with the other kids in the park.

This is a great memory of their very first time geocaching and hopefully they will be avid cachers when they get older. So take your kids, grand kids, nieces and nephews caching with you the next time you go!

Here we all are, standing in Bubbling Spring (a virtual cache listed here on OC US).
