OK. Thank you.kingbee wrote:No caches are permitted in the San Juan Forest of Colorado.
Out of curiosity, do you work or the management authority or do you have a link to a policy?
Welcome to the site. I hope you'll come back on the forums and share more about yourself and what you think of OCUS.
Re: San Juan Forest of Colorado
I have not seen the policy, just a couple of articles in papers. All the old caches were grandfathered in. The head ranger does not want them and thinks they are just trash. Of course we pick up more trash than we leave.
Re: San Juan Forest of Colorado
Ah, the sad state of the uninformed. People hear things without really looking into it and the then have this idea about what we are and what we do. The ranger probably read an article somewhere about one of the bad incidents and it was all over for him. Perhaps somebody could talk to him about doing a CITO type event there, that might persuade him that not all geocachers are evil!

I had quite a few discussions with the local FS Archeologist here in northern Idaho about the benefits outweighing the shortcomings of Caching on Forest Service land. I even showed him bags of garbage I picked up and he grudgingly agreed that it "wasn't all that bad"... lol. He pretty much took a "Don't tell me it's there and I'll ignore it" attitude. He's a nice enough guy, he's just a bit set in his ways.
