I love hunting benchmarks. Not all of them are the little metal disks though. Some of them are what is called "Intersection Stations." Basically water towers, church steeples, that sort of thing. I'm working on an idea to incorporate these into some caches. Not only do most of them date to the turn of the century, but they also have the survey history to boot!

I have found a few that are bridges, water towers, smoke stacks ect. Before geocaching I never knew they were benchmarks.
