What the heck is a GeoKret? (Trackable)

Post by RVRoadTrip » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:32 am

For full details on trackables, visit the OC Wiki at http://wiki.opencaching.us/index.php/Trackables.

GeoKrety means "Geo Mole" in Polish. GeoKret is singular, GeoKrety is plural.
The tracking web site for Geo Moles is http://geokrety.org/
Accounts are free on the site but an account is not needed to log Geo Moles in and out.
To use the site, just provide a trackable item and tag it with the site URL and a tracking code.

Does a tracking number (a la Travel Bug dog tag) need to be purchased? Or is this just a number GeoKrety assigns to the traveler when it is registered?

As long as it is trackable by a unique number or number/letter combination. We do not want to force people to buy specific trackables in order to participate.

I kind of thought that was the case. Free seems to be the operative word associated with opencaching :) I might have to look into creating a GeoKret...

hi,
congratulations on launching opencaching.us!

geokrety are absolutelly free. To prepare your own geokret you have to:
  1. register on the site,
  2. create a geokret (enter the name, description or goal of the geokret, you may also upload some photos;)
  3. after clicking on the "print label" you will be able to create the label in the geokret. you may also create the label yourself, but remember to put there the tracking code (visible on the geokret page)
  4. connect the label to the puppet or sth.
  5. Drop it to the cache, log in on the geokrety.org
  6. watch moves of your geokret via the www, rss or email alerts
for more information go to http://geokrety.org/help.php or ask here.

We need the ability add US coordinates without entering negative numbers.
Most people are not familiar with this and simply want to use N and W specifications.
Hope your holiday is/was fun!

This is a wonderful idea. I have many things that I would love to send on a journey that could be engraved or otherwise marked, but attaching a bug would be nigh impossible.

I was looking into the trackables/geokrety aspect and now it looks like opencaching.COM is going to use the same site for their trackables. That could get VERY confusing!
If you hide it, they will come!

Interesting. Well, that could be used to create a geokrety trackable that could then effectively travel between OCUS, OCCUM, and GC.com caches. Maybe a nice OCUS logo item would be good to send around.
