Re: New Google Maps API, our cache maps are having problems
It looks like GC was also affected with their route not working. I don't use their site much, I find ours better for most things, except the sheer volume of caches. I doubt their basic maps have malfunctioned as I'm sure we would have all heard the screams, even from down under.

Re: New Google Maps API, our cache maps are having problems
We had basic functionality. Cache markers worked and that's about it. I've finished our upgrade with still one issue (travelling salesman problem) to go, but that's a real biggie. I had to fix zones, routes, caches, points and centroids to get them working. Once I got an understanding of the new fun...

Re: New Google Maps API, our cache maps are having problems
Geocaching Australia encountered the same sort of fun. I started on Sunday afternoon and I'm about 16 hours in to our map rewrite (it's not a migration regardless of what Google says). I have about 4 hours of testing to go before I'll be happy to republish our maps functions. So all up about 20 hour...

Re: Misconceptions About the "Alternative" Caching Sites
We refer to ourselves as GCA ( G eo C aching A ustralia). We're so far away from the Open Caching network of sites what with you all being in the Northern Hemisphere. I think we're the only Southern Hemisphere alternative. opencaching.com has a few cross listed caches down under but no unique ones t...

Re: Misconceptions About the "Alternative" Caching Sites
Geocaching Australia does not have a reviewer system. That doesn't mean we don't look at and act on illegally placed cached though. The SBA style notes are acted on to archive listings that are placed illegally. The Australian geocaching community monitor their own caches and act accordingly. We go ...
Re: GSAK
The GPX file being generated (not the GPX GC version) is using the wrong information for a found log. This is xsd file for the file. http://geocaching.com.au/geocache/1/geocache.xsd Note the enumerated values for the log type. <xsd:enumeration value="Found"/> <xsd:enumeration value="Didn't find it"/...

Re: Recruiting new members
No cross promotion here, just an idea. At Geocaching Australia we have a similar challenge. http://geocaching.com.au/ How do we attract new people to play the game based on caches listed on our site. Like OC, GCA offers a type of cache challenge that doesn't exist on the GS site. A moving cache type...
