Why not give it a try. They were willing to start their own site encouraging duplication of what was one of the their best sources for customers' "property" at the risk of alienating them and their members.

That cache listing is PMO and I am no longer in that camp. A bit confused too, GC39 but link is for something else (that i can not see)

Tried to view your cache but was blocked by the paywall. Mr.Yuck and Termite Hunter will be in the same boat. I found New York states oldest geocache a couple years ago. Found a OCNA moving cache along the way and it was more fun to find that the oldest cache. Why? I had no doubts that the Spot cache was there. Knew exactly where the cache was while on approach, due to all the foot traffic. The moving cache, on the other hand, was dropped off 2 years earlier and was buried in compost . Had to really work to get it, and wasn't sure I was even looking in the right place until 20 or 30 minutes of searching turned up the cache.

Looks like I posted the wrong link. I was back logging some GC caches at the same time. About the Spot cache, am I the only one following it in Groundspeak's forums? :P

I drop in there once in a while but too often. It's largely useless information, imo. Just a handful of users bickering back and forth over opinion.

Yes, you are. 79.6 miles as the crow flies. Probably 100 driving. God knows what the German was doing; a cheater? A joke? (Not a very funny joke). That cache is on a very steep dirt road, that is not maintained in the Winter. There hasn't been that much snow this year, but that would just make it a muddy quagmire, and only suitable for Trucks and SUV's. And not Soccermom's in Toyota so-called SUV's either. In the old days, when Geocaching was smaller, The Spot would regularly go from November-April without any finds every year. The owner certainly does need to get off their butt and check it though, don't they? What's the big deal anyways? Other Geocachers could just replace it 20 times like Mingo, the so-called oldest cache in the world, right?

I'm just over 501 miles line or sight from the Spot. Look, I have some Yankee kin that lives in the Buffalo area, and they own snow machines and ATV's. ;) We off road as a family, so I'm not understanding the road is in bad shape that is preventing a search for this old geocache. I'm planning an ATV trip to find west Virginia's oldest ownerless active geocache this spring. If all goes well, I'm leaving a new custom .50 cal ammo can as my contribution of propping up old caches that the owner left the game years ago and the community thinks the cache is special.

My idea is that there is so much interest now with this Spot cache, we organize a search party of OCNA Admins and the two other guys here in the forums and go find that cache, or confirm it missing. We have one member that has already found it. Maybe we could get Garmin's attention, and they would let us blog about our adventure like those Lackeys did with the Ape cache?

Really, a email from a site admin here to Garmin just letting them know that we (OCNA) are very much a part of the geocaching community. I think that we all are cache owners on Groundspeak's site, and we play there was well. It's untelling what you may be able to work out. I never saw Garmin's site as the bad guys. To me, it looked something like what I saw with another group of professionals that had geocaching put on their job agenda and they knew not shit about geocaching. I also see they failed to listen to the community, or did not care, it was all about data for those new units. :D

The admins and the 2 other people here, cute. :D Lets see, difficulty getting to The Spot? Most Geocachers are nerds, that's why. And older nerds too, average age of any event I've ever been to, 40+. It was a very easy cache to find, once you got to Ground Zero. Just sitting in a natural depression, and covered. See this pic by one of the last finders (and note you can click on it to enlarge). I'm sure it's gone.

You have any old contacts at Garmin? I literally don't know where to start, nothing even close on their contact page. My beef with them was always the name, and remember, I wasn't an admin until 2013 (they launched in December 2010). And yes, they were clueless, throwing out a website that didn't even have the funcionality of Navicache! For real, you couldn't contact another player, upload images to your logs or cache pages, and many more that slip my mind right now. And don't forget, they launched that thing with no review process whatsoever! They just pulled "peer review" out of their asses, and within a month of launching, after outrage from the Geocaching community.

I would start here: http://www8.garmin.com/aboutGarmin/spon ... ship-form/ and ask that they support our geocaching community. :)
May want to tell them we are having an event, and ask for geocaching related door prizes. You, being the site admin should be able to get a little support from them. ;)
