Navicache
I just tried posting to Navicache.com forums and received this error:
Ikonboard CGI Error
Ikonboard has exited with the following error:
Cwd object version 3.30 does not match bootstrap parameter 3.62
This error was reported at: /usr/lib64/perl5/DynaLoader.pm line 223.
So maybe the site code isn't still crawling along as was reported a month or so ago.
By the way, I was just checking in and thought I'd add my own belated regrets on the death of Navicache.com.
And to whiteurkel, who posted that his Navicache stats banner isn't working, that can be laid on my back. I provided that service to navicache.com. So I debugged it, and for what it's worth, it's working again.
After failing to get onto the Navicache.com forums, I came here. I believe I was also mapping OpenCaching.us on GPSgames.org, but I quit doing that last month (which is also when the Navicache stats banner broke). I don't intend to restore the OpenCaching.us maps.
What is the status of OpenCaching.us? Still active?

Re: Navicache
NC has been deceased a while now.
We are updating the code to the latest PL code with a few new abilities added and taylored to our uses.
This improvement comes just in time for the site since we suffered several failures recently and still have some residual effects.
Activity on the forum.... not so much.
I think it has been muuch longer since I saw OCNA caches listed on GPSGames' maps.Scout wrote: I believe I was also mapping OpenCaching.us on GPSgames.org, but I quit doing that last month (which is also when the Navicache stats banner broke). I don't intend to restore the OpenCaching.us maps.
Yes, still active. New caches every week.Scout wrote:

Re: Navicache
I'm glad to hear that opencaching.us is still going strong.
I don't remember exactly when I quit pulling caches from opencaching.us. I had been pulling from several sites, but never saw any evidence that people were relying on the service. So last month, when I upgraded the site to a new server, I didn't turn that service back on when I brought the site back up.

TheWhiteUrkel is in fact me, Mr.Yuck. Maybe Scout knows that, I know I've made him change my username in the past. Yeah, I doubt anyone is using your maps to see our caches.Scout wrote:I'm glad to hear that opencaching.us is still going strong.

Yeah, per what TH said, we're still here, new caches almost every week. Rarely a day goes by that there are no accounts created, and current (slightly higher late spring) traffic is averaging around 85 unique visitors a day. The site is OLD (coded in 2008 and 2009), so we do need the new OCPL code, which is slowly being worked on by a European Opencaching admin.
You are correct, I cannot post any more to the Navicache Forums either. So feel free to tell any of your stories of your early dealings with Quinn or PCMedic here, if you'd like.
Re: Navicache
Thanks for the reply, Mr. Yuck. And, yes, now that you mention it, I do remember changing your alias on GPSgames.org. The code on that site is old, too. It was a learning experience for me. No one had taught me not to use names as a primary ID in a database table. That makes it harder, but not impossible, to change them.
So, to recap...
1. Navicache is dead. The website is still there. Some functions might still work, but the forums aren't accepting new posts.
2. GPSgames.org is still alive, but hardly anyone uses it for geocaching. The maps there are no longer including new listings from other sites (including opencaching.us). It still works for geocaches listed on GPSgames.org.
3. OpenCaching.us is not only still alive, but it's still being updated.

Re: Navicache
I visited the Navicache site just to see.
I found the forum looked alive and attempted to add my post to the Final Thoughts thread.
It failed so I am posting it here.
I joined in Jan or Feb of 2011 while looking for alternatives to fill my geocaching interest. Found nothing since the only one nearby was archived on the big site and there were no other options. I did hide 2 that were listed here. They have since been archived so I leave this abandoned site with 0 finds and 2 hides in my record.
Find me with whiteurkel elsewhere.

Well, it's not just myself and Scout then. The Navicache forums cannot be posted too. No biggie, cuts down on Spam, right?TermiteHunter wrote:I visited the Navicache site just to see.

Actually, (knocks on wood) forum spam seems to be a thing of the past.
Re: Navicache
Yeah it seems like they disabled posting at Navicache. How did you get rid of the spam btw, Mr.Yuck?
Re: Navicache
It just went away on it's own. traditional forums like this are dying like crazy, and so the spammers with it. I'm sure they've moved onto other things. Even Blog comment spam appears to be way down. We started out blog in 2013, and at one time got 2,000 spam comments a month. There were "only" 118 in the past week. We have an outstanding filter plug in, NONE of them ever get through.NigelRav wrote:Yeah it seems like they disabled posting at Navicache. How did you get rid of the spam btw, Mr.Yuck?
P.S. Navicache didn't disable shit, those two guys probably haven't even visited the site in 2 years.
