Garmin hasn't owned it the whole time. That is just when the domain was created. You can check out the old forum here: http://develforum.opencaching.de/www.op ... x.php.html

There is an hmarq registered on GC.com. Looks like he was the site admin of opencaching.com back in the day. I sent him a message asking if he was one and the same.

The logo they have seems to be their own idea for an OC logo. The outer circle is the "O", the breaks in the outer circle allow the "C" and I guess "X" marks the spot. :) I am puzzled at why they would take something already in use in quite a few countries and try to change it. My guess is would alienate many of the current OC users.

15 minutes later...
The more I look at their logo, the more I realize how similar it is to the current OC logo. It's so close you could probably contest the trademark.

If you haven't, read through pieces on http://itsnotaboutthenumbers.wordpress.com/ on this topic for addtional info, including the history of the OC.com domain.

I have spoken with someone at Garmin and it wasn't overly helpful. Garmin is being tight lipped. I've written a couple of posts on my blog that discusses the situation. http://www.cachemania.com/tag/opencaching/

I see they changed the logo again. It's now brown with a sort of dirt finish to the background. I kind of like it. Makes it feel "earthy" and "natural."

Pretty interesting. I would understand being tight lipped if they plan some sort of "site launch" Wait and see I queses but I would bet it will be pay to play some how.

What is that blue thing peaking out from the left margin?

Hmm...some sort of mascot maybe?

And btw, the hmarq on GC is the same person who was the site admin on the old opencaching.com many, many years ago. I invited him to check out the opencaching.us site.
