Today is the anniversary of the first "stash" placed by Dave Ulmer. The term "geocaching" was suggested a few weeks later (May 30) by Matt Stum.

I always thought the history of Geocaching, as told by Scout of GPSgames.org (DudleyGrunt's link in the first post), was a little on the harsh side. But it certainly gets the point across that that other website did not invent either the game, or even the name Geocaching itself. Of course there's probably a couple million account holders over there who think they did.
