Site suggestion - permalinks

I'm not sure why I didn't notice earlier, but I noticed this evening that the opencaching.us website uses default permalinks. You may want to consider changing the setting to post name instead. It makes finding posts a little easier and shortens the URL. It also helps with Google searches.

It doesn't look like the main website is in WordPress, so it may not be that easy to change. I did see that the blog is in WordPress. :)

We, or I should say I, am a Wordpress newbie. I'll look into that, and maybe you can help me with that. We only changed from Blogger to Wordpress in May. No, this website is most definitely not Wordpress, hard coded php, and basically a copy of opencaching.org.uk, which is basically an older version of opencaching.pl converted to English.

The blog already looks like it is set up with the permalinks as I suggested. It's the opencaching.us site itself. Unfortunately, I don't know much about developing sites in anything other than WordPress, so I wouldn't know where to begin to try to help fix the permacodes here. But I do know a fair amount about WordPress. I run a small company that makes simple WordPress sites for people. :D I don't know how to fix the avatars associated with the posts though, so I'm certainly not a WordPress expert. ;)

OK, I finally looked into this. I am in fact not using the default permalinks. I am using blogger style permalinks. And my memory has now been jogged that I had to do this when I converted the whole thing from Blogger to Wordpress via a Wordpress plug in. We went a year with Blogger, and the past 4 months with Wordpress. Reason? SEO (I'm sure I don't have to define that for you) is HORRIBLE with Blogger, even though Google owns it. Go figure. You have have to blog for YEARS about Geocaching on a Blogger blog to get a high ranking in a Google search. After a year, we basically didn't even show in a search of "Geocaching Blogs", or "Geocaching Bloggers". I did manage to get our links page high on a Google search as sort of a work around.

Why didn't we do Wordpress to start with? Because Blogger is so easy! And I seriously doubt I had the knowledge to install Wordpress on this server when I became an admin. I learned a lot of stuff in that year. And continue to learn almost every day. :D

Me again. Duh, this doesn't mean I can't be using better permalinks on the NEW posts since we went to Wordpress. And another thing, in the post above when I said I wouldn't have had the knowledge to install Wordpress when I first came on board? I know on a fresh install on an empty server Wordpress has a "one click" 10 minute installation. This did not apply to our pre-existing server! I had to create an SQL database for it manually, and ran into issues with virtual hosts, and a couple other things.
