Spam accounts

We have had a few in the past but lately we seem to be getting more of these spam accounts posting links to «»€>™£%© websites and posting poorly translated nonsense.
Its there anything that can be done to prevent this? a verification email on signup or something?
A minor annoyance but I could do without the bogus accounts and their gibberish
Any strange spellings or choices of words are the fault of autocorrect

Spambot alert
Seems they are posting more here than the real members

Re: Spam accounts
Actually, There appears to no longer be much if an activity by real OCus users.
The place has been taken over by SPAMBOTS and the Mods have just let their posts remain.
If there is an issue with blocking the individual accounts, perhaps causing additional attacks, at least DELETE their posts so that prospective new members that actually have an interest in opencaching will not be confronted with what now appears to be an abandoned forum increasingly populated by spam posts. Not the image of a community I would be likely to join if I were on the fence about it and exploring the OCus sites.

Re: Spam accounts
How about these?
I usually view the forum on Tapatalk but I see here that I can "report" the posting. I will go back and do that as well.

Re: Spam accounts
Yes, hmmmm.... Interesting. I do see these are older posts now (as I follow the links), but have not come across them before.
My normal practice is to log into the forums and click on "View new posts". Generally, this shows me anything new that has been posted since my last visit. This time, your 2 posts above were the only new posts I saw, for instance.
When a post is reported, it does not seem to send an e-mail. I've not normally logged into the Moderator Control Panel to check for reports, since I would expect to see any new posts and the fact that they've been reported as I log in.
Guess I need to modify my methodology. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention.
I have banned the users and deleted the problem posts.

Re: Spam accounts
Two new ones today. I think I recognize one of the posters from earlier
I usually view this on Tapatalk checking the unread posts first, I then check the ALL tab and often see new posts that didn't show up in the” unread” section for some reason. You may be experiencing something similar even viewed on the computer.
